The University of Minnesota swine group you would like to wish you a Happy New Year! In the spirit of looking forward to 2026, we wanted to take a moment to revisit the top five most-read articles from 2025.

- In June, the Morrison Swine Health Monitoring Project shared Updates on monitored PRRSV variants, looking at detection patterns, geographic distribution, clustering activity, and helping stakeholders stay informed about trends in variant circulation and transmission dynamics.
- We got to explore a new UMN VDL tool, Epidemiological insights on the PRRS-Loom Variant webtool: https://stemma.shinyapps.io/PRRSLoom-variants/, which allows people to upload their PRRS sequence and get their genetic variant classification but also know which PRRS variants are on the rise.
- This summer, readers were interested to learn about the paper Scoring of swine lung images: a comparison between a computer vision system and human evaluators. Together we dove into the methods and results of this paper, which aimed at comparing scoring of cranioventral pulmonary consolidation by computer vision system and by a human evaluator.
- Dr. Torremorell’s lab published Quantifying the impact of vaccination on transmission and diversity of influenza A variants in pigs, and we were there to help break down the results found and the methods used.
- Throughout 2025, MSHMP kept us up-to-date on Senecavirus, sharing Senecavirus A disease incidence estimates in the U.S. breeding herd at the beginning of the year, which took a look at Senecavirus A incidence in the United States over the past decade (and an update in July!)
