UV germicidal chambers – best practices: A refresher

The AASV annual meeting brought forward some conversation about UV chambers and their efficacy in decontaminating supplies when entering the farm. The Torremorell Lab put together some great resources in both English and Spanish, available on our website!

Resources include a handout on the acronym “No PRRS” to remember proper use and maintenance of your UV box. The acronym, which works in both English and Spanish, stands for:

  • New bulbs regularly
  • Organize routine cleanings of UV Chamber
  • Place items in direct exposure to the UVC light
  • Rotate objects based on bulb placement
  • Reflective side walls
  • Safety first

Or in Spanish…

  • Nuevas bombillas regularmente

Additionally, if you are interested in the scientific data you can check out our research summary on the project.
