Swine Group members set to present at IPVS Congress in Vietnam

The UMN Swine Group will e presenting at IPVS 2026

The University of Minnesota Swine Group is headed to Vietnam. A group of instructors and students is set to present their latest findings in swine health research at the 28th International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) Congress, held in Ho Chi Minh City from June 16–19. 

The IPVS Congress, one of the largest swine veterinarian events for the global pig industry, brings together swine health experts to showcase the latest scientific and technological advances in swine health and production research. 

The Swine Group speakers and their presentations are:

  • Dr. Fabio Vannucci: “Interpreting Detection of Multiple Pathogens in Diarrheic Pigs”
  • Mark Schwartz: “Feasibility and Application of Tongue Tip Sampling for Influenza A Virus Surveillance in Pigs from Weaning Through Nursery Phase”
  • Dr. Kim VanderWaal: “Enhancing PRRSV-2 Monitoring and Outbreak Tracing by Adoption of FineScale Classification of Genetic Variants in North America”
  • Dr. Julia Baker: “PRRSV-2 Variant-Specific Exposure History and Abortion Outcomes in U.S. Sow Farms”
  • Dr. Mariana Kikuti: PRRSV Variants Under Monitoring (Vum): An Initiative for Proactive Near Real-Time Surveillance”
  • Dr. Rafael Medeiros de Melo: “Enhancing Biosecurity in Swine Operations: Investigating Wildlife Interactions on Mortality Management Structures of Swine Farms”
  • Dr. Lucas Ferreira: “Market Hog Transportation: A Trailer Study Model for Pathogen Dissemination in the U.S” & “Assessment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Usage by Truck Drivers During Market Hog Unloading at a US Harvest Facility”

The IPVS Congress is held biannually and draws around 3,000 attendees. The 2030 Congress will be held in Minneapolis and organized by the Swine Group.
